Mini Symposium on Economy for the Common Good.
Prof. Oliver Szasz, head of the M.A. Design Management program at Macromedia University Munich, hosted a virtual mini symposium on the Economy for the Common Good (ECG) in cooperation with Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie Bayern e.V.
Founded as a social movement in 2010, ECG had by then been practiced by over 2,000 companies and numerous universities and communities across Europe and South America. ECG offers a transformative approach to economic activity, framing business practices within environmental and social boundaries. Unlike conventional models focused on profit maximization, ECG evaluates success through a Common Good Balance Sheet, measuring how companies contributed to human dignity, solidarity, social justice, environmental sustainability, democracy, and transparency. By aligning business goals with these fundamental values, ECG promotes systemic change and encourages organizations to act as responsible and ethical members of society.
The mini symposium provided an opportunity to explore ECG’s principles, learn from practical applications, and discuss how design, management, and innovation could contribute to a thriving, sustainable economy for the common good.
