Material Culture and Transformative Change.
The panel discussion “Matter Moves Mind– Towards a New Material Culture” was conceived and hosted by Prof. Oliver Szasz, bringing together leading voices from Anthropology, Innovation Management, and Design: Dr. Lora Koycheva, Prof. Dr. Giovanni Schiuma, and Prof. Stuart Walker.
In light of current global crises, it has become increasingly clear that we must fundamentally rethink how we think and act—both individually and collectively. Crucially, we must recognize that our actions are never detached from the physical world. Our perceptions, emotions, social interactions, and even our bodily experiences are deeply influenced by the material environments we inhabit. This reciprocal relationship between matter and mind is embedded in our material culture. The objects we create and surround ourselves with are not merely functional or aesthetic, they are expressions of our ways of thinking. Artists and designers have long played a pivotal role in shaping this material culture, positioning them as key agents in processes of transformative change.
