London became the first National Park City in July 2019.
This community-driven movement celebrates and supports the actions of millions of people in their neighbourhoods. “London National Park City is the world’s first National Park City. A place, a vision and a movement to improve life in London. We’re doing this by enjoying being outdoor more and helping to make our city greener, healthier and wilder.” (www.nationalparkcity.london)
The National Park City Foundation (NPCF), in partnership with World Urban Parks and Salzburg Global Seminar, created the first International Charter for National Park Cities (NPC). While London is the pioneer, NPCF aims to designate at least 25 National Park Cities by 2025 and is already in conversation with cities across the UK and beyond.
How does this work in practice? One example of the many and versatile activities of the London National Park City is the Rangers Program. One example is the Rangers Programme, through which volunteers champion and facilitate local initiatives. In the video below, some volunteer rangers share their experiences.

Let’s not only make London a greener, healthier and wilder habitat. Imagine your city would become the next National Park City…
